My blog is thisclose to being done...! I hope to have it "live" by the end of today. I am so excited to share it with you! {I realized the wording was a little confusing on this, so I edited it to hopefully make more sense.}

I've been working on this for several months now, and while it's still not ready to be officially released, I WILL be adding digital packages to my product offerings very soon! Woo hoo! I know so many of you are really wanting those digital images, so I am SO excited to offer them to you!
In the meantime, I wanted to "kick off" the digital packages with a HUGE special!

Here's the scoop:

-For clients that had a session last year between January 2007 and November 2007
-CD includes digital images that you previously purchased as prints, as well as maybe a surprise image or two that I have saved for myself :){for example - whatever prints your ordered from your session will be put on CD for you to keep}
-Images will be high resolution - so can be printed at ANY size! (I am not responsible for crummy printing errors, though - so please follow the list of printing recommendations that are included) :)
-Images will look just as they did in your gallery - creatively edited and re-touched!
-Cost of CD: $100.00

This is a one-time only special. As you know, I normally purge any unordered images after 30 days, and ALL images from your session after 1 year (except for a few favorites of mine to use in my portfolio). So this offer can obviously not be used at any other time, as many of your sessions are coming up on the 1 year "anniversary"...therefore your session images will be purged and no longer available for purchase. This special will run until April 27th - that's just 2 weeks!

This is a great value, as a 5x7 would normally be $15 for just ONE print! You'll be able to print at any size, and as many times as you like...as well as use for myspace, facebook, blogging, etc.

To purchase, just click on the "Buy Now" button, and your CD will be mailed out to you right away! Easy peasy :)

My new logo is finally here! After a year of being in business, much soul-searching, and a fabulous graphic designer, I finally have my new identity :)

I am so giddy - I'm like a kid on Christmas morning! And it's only going to get better...I'm having some fab new biz cards designed, as well as a a brand new blog header that is going to just be awesome :) Oh- yeah, and did I mention the new BLOG? Oh man, this new blog is going to knock your socks off! I'm not kidding! I'm so pumped :)

This past weekend I had my first outdoor session of the season! It was a gorgeous day, and I got to spend part of the morning photographing these 2 equally gorgeous sisters. Here's a peak for their momma...

decisions, decisions...and a winner!

Ok, so I've made up my mind and settled on a logo! I'm just waiting for a last minute revision to be done, and then I'll post it on here for all to see :)

First of all - remember when I said here that everyone who voted would get a gift certificate for a free 8x10? Well, there were 19 of you voting, but I only got a handful of addresses! I know some of you aren't from the area, but if you are wanting to claim your gift certificate, please email me your mailing address by this Wednesday. Thank you! :)

Help please - new logo!

I am so excited to be getting a new logo for my business! I designed my own logo back in April of last year, and have never really loved it. So I decided to commission the lovely Amanda to design some concepts for me - and I was blown away! She did an amazing job, and was so wonderful to work with.

Now for the hard part - picking one! I am a terrible decision maker when it comes to stuff like this - so I am asking for your help! I've narrowed it down to 4 different designs. This is where you come in - please leave a comment telling me your favorite one. Everyone who comments will get a gift certificate for a free 8x10 to use at a future session. You know how they say pregnant women have that "glow" about them? Well, I photographed a mama-to-be today that definitely had that glow. The images speak for themselves - wow! Such a gorgeous momma. I am so excited to photograph their baby girl in just a little over a month!

I'm finishing up my 3 weeks break from sessions, and I have to say, I am so excited to get back in the saddle again! The break was much needed, and unavoidable...BUT I am so ready to get my creative juices flowing again! I've got so many great ideas for my sessions this spring. I have a maternity session early next week, so you'll be seeing some images from that soon - I can't wait! Then starts the Spring rush - as I call it - so the blog will be much busier from now on...lots of sneak peeks :)

In case you were wondering, the What to Wear Guide did NOT get emailed out on time -oops! I am hoping to get that out this weekend, so bare with me :)

This is not photography related in any way, but I just had to share it with my blog readers! I stumbled across this blog a few weeks ago, and found this great skin care regimen. We have always been pretty health-conscious (or so I thought), but I recently have felt challenged to go more natural with not just what we put IN our bodies, but also ON our bodies.

I admit - I have been a Proactiv user for a few years now...and while I have always been uncomfortable with putting those harsh chemicals onto my face (and in turn into my bloodstream), I honestly didn't think anything else would work for my "problem skin". BUT...I just started this new completely natural, home-made regimen...and -

WHOAH. My skin has NEVER, ever looked this good. It actually glows! Even the texture of it has changed...it's smooth, and even...no dry or oily spots - it's just balanced. With Proactiv I had such a hard time finding the perfect balance between drying the heck out of it but still controlling it. This new regimen seriously has changed the way I feel about my skin...and the fact that what I am putting on it doesn't contain 20 chemicals that I can't pronounce...even better! :) So b/c I am just so excited about this, I have to share it! Just try it for a day and you will never go back!

The best part - it is SAFE and healthy for my skin/body - and it's MUCH cheaper than anything I could buy in the store. My hubby is stoked that we no longer have to buy Proactiv, too :) He even told me last night that he had noticed how great my skin looks - yay!

Ok, so here's what you do:

1) Take equal parts extra virgin olive oil and castor oil and combine in a sealed glass bottle. Add essential oils if you like (I love tea tree oil for it's blemish fighting properties and lavendar for the smell) - just a few drops will do ya :) There's your face wash - easy and cheap!

2) Tie your hair back, and massage a liberal amount of the mixture into your face - about 30-60 sec is all.

3) Wet a washcloth with STEAMING hot water. Ring it out and lay it on your face. When it cools, do this again. Then again. This part steams out all the impurities and helps the oils do their job (and feels SO good). This is my favorite part. It reminds me of the mini-facials they do at the local spa.

4) Rinse out the washcloth and wipe all the oil of your face. Be sure to get all of it. This is the exfoliating part....ahhhhhh. You will not believe how smooth your face will be just after the first time you do this!

5) I like to splash hot water on my face as the last step, then pat dry. That's it! If you are prone to dry skin, you can take a tiny bit of the oil, rub it in your hands, and then on your face as the last step - instant moisturizer!

I do this every morning and every night. You can get castor oil and olive oil at most supermarkets, but I prefer to get all natural/organic from the local health food store, since pesticides concentrate in fats. You can also find essential oils at any natural/health food store.

Introducing...

...changes and a new product!

Due to some huge steps up in my print quality and products, I have made some changes in my pricing structure for my prints and products, so please check them out and make a note if it. Starting in 2008, all prints 5x7 & larger come finished with a delicate linen texture, and all prints 8x10 & up will come mounted on sytrene. This hard material keeps your print from bending or folding, and substantially prolongs the life of your photograph - yet won't interfere with framing. These may sound like small steps, but they are just another way of turning your prints into true art. This is something I am very happy to offer my clients as your custom photographer :)

By the way no worries - if you have already booked your session for 2008, you will fall under the old pricing structure for prints. However, all sessions booked from here on out will be subject to the new pricing. Thank you!

Now for the really good stuff! I am so excited to annouce this new prodcut line! Introducing...

These square art prints come mounted, printed on gorgeous metallic paper and finished with a delicate linen texture. The metallic finish combined with the linen texture is subtle, yet makes the print oh-so-touchable. It is just gorgeous! Well, see for yourself...

These 5x5 or 8x8 prints also come with an easel, ready for display. They are perfect for a desk, wall shelf, side table...just about anywhere! More unique than the typical 5x7...and I really can't put into words just how gorgeous they are! I of course had to order some for myself :)

We were good friends with them several years ago (some may remember them from our wedding party), and through difficult circumstances in our lives, we lost touch with many old friends. I also wanted to give you an update on scheduling for this spring.
April & May are completely (over)booked! I will open booking for June on March 1st. With the way things are going, I expect the 4 spots left in June to go in a matter of weeks (probably less), so please don't delay if you are wanting a June session.

March still has a few spots left for newborn sessions, so don't forget to check out my newborn special if you are expecting or know someone who is.

First things first...HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! I've been dying to post this image but made myself wait until today :) For my friends who haven't gotten their valentine yet, they are going in the mail tomorrow (late as usual). I didn't want to shock anyone by actually sending a card on time for once! :)

Now on to our regularly scheduled program...

I had the privilege of photographing another newborn this week. This little guy couldn't have been more perfect! He was wide eyed and awake when I got there, then fell into a deep sleep for the rest of the session. Perfect! His momma is pretty special to us, as she also took care of our precious Henry while he was in the hospital (yes, he had LOTS of nurses!) :) I hadn't seen her in years, so it was great to catch up and meet her 2 little girls and new baby boy. Here's a peek for you, L & J...hope you are getting some sleep at night :)

Can I just tell you how much I LOVE working with natural light? The light here just leaves such a feeling of wonderment and innocence...me love!

here's a sneak peek for baby m & his parents. he was such a happy-go-lucky little guy! we had fun playing at his house together. wintertime can be a challenge when you work only with natural light, esp on days like today when its cloudy and foggy. we spent lots of time near or in front of windows, and it worked beautifully. i still can't get over his gorgeous complexion! milky white skin and striking blue eyes - wow! plus i have a thing for bald babies :) enjoy the peek, j&a!

i'm sure mom & dad thought I was nuts when I drug the dining room table against the wall and asked them to sit "m" on it. hopefully now they'll understand the method to my madness! :) this is one of my fave shots of the whole session!

are just a few of the things i photographed yesterday for peas&carrots. What an amazing day! I got to meet so many new people, and the kiddos were just GORGEOUS! the pictures speak for themselves, but really...these kids were just great! and the products...i was borderline drooling all day. getting to touch all these great fabrics and not take anything home...torture! i was too busy to actually shop, so i'm definitely going to make a trip over there in the next few weeks to pick out a few things. the mommas were oohing and aahing over jessica's creations. i can't even begin to tell you everything she carries, but hopefully these images give you a small taste. this is a HUGE sneak peek...because i know jessica is dying to see some of these, as well as the moms of my models.

I can tell you all have spring fever, because my inbox has been flooded with emails this week! It's safe to say I've never booked more sessions than I have in the past week! That being said, April is completely booked. May has TWO spots left. Yes, you heard me right - I am officially booking for May. February has been booked (and overbooked) for awhile now...and March has a few spots open still. This is perfect for those of you that don't want a larger-than-life sized portrait of yourself in your living room (like I have, lol) You can still use up that big blank wall without having an enormous image of your child peering over you while you watch tv. I have to say it was SUCH a hard decision...I even enlisted the help of another photographer, as well as my husband. The winner's momma s have been contacted. Thank you to everyone who entered! I am looking for a few children for a commercial shoot on February 8th. These will be full length sessions styled by me and taken here in Bloomington. There will be no session fee, and participants will be presented with a beautiful gift from their session.

Your child does not need to be a professional model or an aspiring one. The only requirement is that you sign a model release for the images to be used in marketing and online by Summer Knobloch Photography.

I will be taking on up to 3 children with different requirements that will be posted below. If you are interested, please send me an email at summer@summerknoblochphotography.com with a snapshot of your child, a short description about them, and your location and contact information. Please send only one email if you are submitting for more than one category, and state your intentions in the email. Put the gender and age of your child(ren) in the subject.

not only can you find the cutest, most unique items...but i love knowing that i'm supporting other small business owners. many of them are moms working from home just like me...which i think is so cool :)

i can't remember how i stumbled across this little store on etsy, but oh my goodness....i'm in love! i am such a sucker for anything personalized as it is...and then you throw in the modern design and clean lines...and i'm sold!

I've updated my pricing structure for 2008, and well as spiffed up my Collections, so please review that information on my site before booking your next session.

I've already booked several session for this Spring! If you have been waiting to book a session until the last minute, don't wait! I should be closing the books on March & April by the end of February.

If you are expecting a baby and want to book either The Newborn or The Beginning (maternity + newborn) Collection, please contact me asap. It's never too early to get those sessions on the books. I will be releasing a very exciting new addition to The Beginning Collection within the week,so stay posted! I'm super excited about this, and I think you will flip over it :)

I had the wonderful privilege of photographing baby "I" last week. As most of you know, we are involved with the Children's Hospital of IL because of our experience there with our son. I had told a staff member (and nurse) there last summer that I wanted to donate my services for "heart families". She said she would keep me in mind. Fast forward to the fall, and I got an email from "I"'s mom. Pregnant with fourth child. Devastating news. Complicated, serious heart defect. Surgery within first week of life.

We met over dinner a few weeks ago, and I instantly could feel the love she had for her unborn child. Such devotion, yet fear. It reminded me so much of where I had been only 3 years before.

Baby "I" was born last week. Mom had a beautiful, quick birth. I finally had the chance to meet this baby girl. These images were so important to the parents, as they captured her before her first surgery. I am so thankful for the incredible privilege to meet such a special baby.

This sweet little thing had her first open heart surgery yesterday. She did well, but is still critical. Keep her in your prayers, as she has many hurdles to face.

Meet Baby "I". A living, breathing miracle.

Thank you E & C for allowing me to meet your precious daughter. I am truly blessed to have met you. I have been where you are, and I know it seems insurmountable. I pray the Holy Spirit would bring you comfort and strength that you cannot fathom. You guys are amazing.

This past weekend hubby & I traveled out of state to shoot a wedding. No, I am not branching into the wedding industry :) This was an exception I made for a wonderful couple that I met several years ago through church. They were such an easy, fun couple to work with. It was 20 degrees and snowing most of the day, but they were more than willing to go outside with me - and we were able to get some amazing shots because of it! We would run out for 5 minutes at a time, then once our hands went numb, we would run inside for 2 minutes to warm up before heading back out again :) It was so worth it, and we had a great time!

W & J - here's a huge sneak peek for you. Thanks for entrusting the biggest day of your life to me! Hope you enjoyed Chicago!

it's been a long time since i took out my camera just for fun, and snapped some pictures of C just being herself. so today i did just that, and i am SO glad i did. it reminded me of why i love being a photographer...but it reminded me even more of why i love being a MOM.

hoping this phases passes before she starts school.

Ask any photographer, and they will tell you that they are too busy photographing other people to get any shots of their own. It's so true! The last time we had family pictures taken was when Charlotte was 6 weeks old. Sooooo....over a year later, we finally got it together and I had my good friend (and fellow photographer) Whitney Clark take some shots of us. Whit is a wedding photographer who also specializes in engagements and seniors. I traveled out of town this weekend to photograph this cute 7 month old. His mom contacted me awhile back, and it turns out she was one of Henry's surgery nurses. We had never met her but she remembered our Henry. It was so special to meet her in person. It sounds strange, but it's comforting to be around others who have met him. He was such a blessing that we didn't get to share with a lot of those we loved, so it's nice to know that others remember him.

This Mom & Dad told me that Baby K was a "mover & a shaker" and boy were they right! K was crawling, pulling up, standing...! He started crawling shortly after he turned 5 months, so this little guy was a pro. He couldn't have been sweeter or happier.

Here's a sneak peek for you two...I'm ahead of schedule, so I'll have your proofs to you very soon!

I just love this.

I'm really into the "film" black and white look right now. I am a black and white pack rat...I can never have enough black and white conversions. It all depends on my mood which one I use :)

I have a busy, busy week...a future client is being born as we speak :) (SO EXCITED!), and two final child sessions for the year... so I may be a little late on returning emails...but I will get to them as soon as I can. Thanks for understanding!

As usual, newborn session are still accepted even after I am booked up for the month. Please contact me as soon as possible for your newborn session as I am accepting a limited number per month.

Regarding future bookings for child sessions:

In 2008, I will only be accepting 3-4 sessions per month. Because of this, expect me to be booking several months out. I will open up bookings for each month only 3 months prior. This avoids the "booking 6 months out" that I ran into this fall. So please take note of the month you are interested in and contact me in plenty of time to reserve your spot. I will annouce on my blog and site when each months bookings are open for reserving.

I get so many inquiries each week that it is impossible for me to follow up further after I have responded with my availability. If I do not hear back from you regarding booking, I will not remind you. Please watch my site and/or blog for my latest availability. I will try my best to keep everyone aware of spots that open up.

Thank you for an overwhelmingly positive first year and I am looking forward to an amazing 2008!

A little story about D

I shot my nephew's portraits this morning for the first time. He's 3 and 1/2 and is really the sweetest little boy you will ever meet. When it comes to my favorite little ones, he is definitely at the top of the list. I couldn't wait to get this sneak peek up for his dad...

First, a little background info for the non-friend readers of this blog...

My nephew "D" was born with VATER Syndrome, and while not going into all the details, involves various birth defects/abnormalities. His first year of life he was in the hospital more than a dozen times. He has had several surgeries (I lost track actually), procedures (again, lost track) and just the slightest thing as a cold could send him into the ER. The most remarkable thing is you would never know this. He is full of energy, is vibrant, and such a happy child. He was even asked to participate in the Make A Wish Foundation! Can you tell I am a proud aunt? :) In addition to these struggles, his mother (my sister) died when he was 5 days old. It was an unexpected, tragic moment in all our lives. When I was grieving her death and in a very dark place, D became a strong force in my life. I had never loved a child in that way until he was born, and I will always remember the hope he gave me.

D's father (my brother-in-law) truly deserves the dad-of-the-year award. (is there one of those? there should be.) While he was coping with the loss of his wife, best friend, and first love...he also had to learn how to care for his very sick baby. He did things for D that most parents would never think of having to do. He continues to this day to be both mother and father to him, and it amazes me. I could go on and on about what an incredible person he is.

Now that I have you all teared up (that was the plan, you know) - here's a sneak peek for his daddy. A - thank you for asking me to capture the special bond between you two. I loved every minute of it.

You know when you cram everything into one weekend how it seems to go by like a whirlwind? That's what this weekend was like. Between multiple sessions, wiener roasts, and a birthday party, we didn't know when we were coming or going! I can't believe tomorrow is already Monday, but I'm glad to have a day to rest and hang out with my favorite little person :)

Now for H...I did her 2 year portraits in May so you may recognize this cutie. We had a wind advisory today which made it more of a challenge than usual, but we ended up with some fantastic shots regardless!

Funks Grove Sessions

Time for a foot rub...

because being in heels all day does not agree with me! Today was the Mama-Prenuer Bazaar, and it was a huge success! I was amazed at the amount of mommas (and some dads too) that came through the door today. I met so many nice people tonight and loved sharing my business with everyone. Congrats to Misty on winning the FREE session! I had a ton of names in that bag...I wish I could have given everyone a free session, but I know you all snatched up those coupons like crazy :)

To those of you that I didn't get a chance to talk to one-on-one: thank you for stopping by! If you are considering a Spring session, it is imperative that you book starting in Feburary. I book up 2-3 months in advance, so as soon as you have a month in mind, drop me a line. I hope to see lots of you next year!

My husband is next to me on the couch snoring, so time to wake him and get that foot rub!

Reminders & Little Miss G

Well, I survived one of the busiest weekends yet! Now only 9 sessions + 1 wedding to go before November 18th! That sounds really crazy when I say it, but if I just take one session at a time it should be doable :) Other photogs told me that fall would be the busiest season, and wow, they weren't kidding! And to think I turned away about 10 others for this fall b/c I just simply can't do it all. I'm sorry to those of you that weren't able to get in - now that you know how quickly things fill up, you'll be sure to book way ahead for next year :)

Before the sneak peek, a few reminders:

*MONDAY, OCTOBER 8TH is the last day to get your Christmas card order in. If I don't receive it tomorrow, well....you're out of luck :) I'll check my email last thing before I head to bed tomorrow nght, so feel free to email me your request up until the last minute. See the sidebar link for all the details.

*WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10TH from 7pm-9:30pm is the Mama Entrepenuer Bazaar! Details were in the latest postcard that was sent out. Something different...

As you know, my favorite (and pretty much only) thing that I photograph is kiddos. That certainly is not changing anytime soon, but I did step outside of my comfort zone last night for an engagement session. The bride to be is a close family/friend of mine, and I've known her since I was 12! So of course I jumped at the chance to shoot their engagement pictures, even though I really had no clue what I was going to do :) Being in the design field herself, she knew she wanted something unique and out-of-the-box. Just the kind of challenges I love! :)

We had a great time traipsing through cornfields and a pumpkin patch...and luckily we didn't get attacked by the giant turkey roaming the property! Oh, the joys of being a country girl!

I had a session over the weekend at one of the best locations yet! This family lives on a HUGE area of land...gorgeous wooded areas, wheat fields, horses, creeks....you name it! We had a great time exploring different spots, and I got to relive some of my younger days of growing up as a farm girl :) The mom told me that she really just wanted a day in their life to be documented...them doing things that they always do together, but don't have photographs of. THAT is what I am all about and what I truly, truly love! This was such a laid back session because they really were just being themselves, and letting me tag along.

This post will be longer than most, because I have a lot to say. For the last few weeks, Matt and I have been consumed with prayers and thoughts for this particular baby. This little guy had a very scary start to his life, and struggled for several days. Sharing with his parents in their disbelief and fear brought back many memories for Matt & I. It doesn't seem possible that it was almost 3 years ago that we were fighting the same fight for our angel Henry.

I'm so happy to say that last week, baby K came home to his family! He still has a few hurdles ahead of him, but our hearts are overflowing with thankfulness for this little miracle.

I had the privilege of photographing him today, and this is the song that is running through my head as I am proofing his session...(photos follow)

I have a crush...

on an almost-3 year old. Normally when I hear that my client is between the age of 2 and 3, there's a good possibility they will do one of two things: 1) they will run from me crying OR 2) they will run from me screaming.

Well, "C" proved me wrong last weekend! From the very start he was charming me...showing me "Red" (his fire truck), telling me about "Mater" (parents of toddler boys you know exactly who I'm talking about), and just in general being super duper sweet! To top it off, his parents were so fun and laid back...just stepped back and let me and him do our thing. Here's a sneak peek for them...enjoy you two!

I've been feeling very festive lately. Maybe it's the cooler temperatures, or the pumpkins sprouting up in the stores around town...but I am SO excited for my favorite season....FALL!

With fall comes some "fun stuff" for all of you! I have been considering buying some calendar templates for awhile now, but was disappointed to find that the ones I like only come in a 5x7 size. So, I decided to make my own! Here are 2 examples...I hope to add more in the months to come:

I've been "tagged" by fellow photographer Jessica Oatman.
Basically I have to list 8 random facts about myself, and then tag 8 other photographers to do the same. Jessica, you're gonna get it for this!

Allright...so here's all the things you never wanted to know and more :)

1. I grew up in and old farmhouse out in the middle of nowhere, catching bugs and playing in the cornfields. My dream is to do it all over again someday with our kids.

2. Matt & I love going to Wal-mart together. Not sure why, but we have been doing it for 7 years and it's still fun!

3. My favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate chip. No low fat or low sugar kind, either, thankyouverymuch. I hate diet deserts...what is the point? (that was an extra random fact for ya)

4. When I get nervous, I get really, really chatty. If I'm on my way to a session or to church to sing, I can't stop talking. The car ride usually goes something like this:
Me: Man, It's hot out today.
Matt: Yep.
Me: Wow, look at that car, the fender is hanging off.
Matt: Mmmhmm
Me: Hey, there's a dead squirrel in the middle of the road!
Matt: Gross.
Me: I wonder what Matt & Amy are doing tonight, we should call them.
Matt: Good idea.
Me: Or we could rent a movie, or I'll probably be tired after the shoot, we should just go home and I'll edit, or we could grab dinner, or we could take Charlotte to the park to play on the swings, but she'll probably be too tired and it is probably too hot out. Man, it's hot out today.
Matt: Yep.

5. I will not leave the house without makeup unless I absolutely have to (like if there was a fire or something). I'm not sure if that makes me vain or just tells you that I am not a natural beauty...but either way, makeup MUST be applied!

6. I am a little crunchy around the edges....not all the way through, but definitely on the edges. I cloth diaper part-time (used to full time but I admit I have regressed the last few months), we co-sleep, I still breastfeed Charlotte (yes, she is *gasp!* almost 14 months old), and I only feed her organic, natural foods (mostly vegan). I would even go so far as to only give her homegrown fruits and vegetables IF I had a garden, but alas I am too afraid of tomato spiders to grow my own. (yet another extra fact)

7. Every year, around October, it starts. I pout, I stomp, I resist until I am so uncomfortable that I can hardly stand it anymore. I eventually give in, but not without whining and crabbing and then whining some more. I hate to do it, but I have to. I put my flip flops away.

8. I think being a mom is the coolest thing ever. Really.

Urban Sessions

I had my first Urban Session Sunday night, and I have to say...it was SO much fun! I once again had the privelege to capture a T.O.U.C.H. family.

I'm so glad the mom suggested something different for their session. As soon as she said "no parks", I thought of trying out our downtown area. We had a blast hanging out in the nooks and crannies of downtown, and ended the night with pizza and ice cream :) Doesn't get much better than that in my book! We got so many fun images - it was hard to only pick a few for the teaser :)

To the Z family...thanks for being my guinea pigs and letting us join you for dinner at the infamous Micheleo's. Thanks also for making the trip to Normal. We'll see you at the picnic in September! Enjoy your sneak peek :)

Christmas Card Special!

I realize Christmas is almost 4 months away, but I've had some requests for Christmas cards and decided to put together a special for my faithful clients. Because I know everyone is busy (including myself!) I've made it simple for us both. Just pick a photo from your session, as well a template from below, and presto! You'll get a CD with your Christmas card saved as a jpeg file, ready to be printed at the lab of your choice. All you have to do is drop the CD off, and pick up your cards. Or, if you're feeling really lazy, just upload the file to the lab's website. No more waiting in line to use the machine, only to get the same vertical card everyone sends out. Couldn't be easier! The best part is, the CD is just $50.00!

Guidelines for submitting your request:

*Make sure the photo you choose fits in the corresponding window on the template (e.g. if it's a horizontal opening, it must be a horizontal picture)

*Email me at: summer@summerknoblochphotography.com with your picture request (just look on the back of the photograph for the image number) and template #.

*Include your family member's names as well as your last name.

*These templates are not fully customizable. Only names and pictures will be switched out.

...I'm hooked on newborns. I just can't get enough of these sweet little ones! This little guy was so perfect! He slept almost the entire 3 hours I was shooting...he didn't even stir when I carried him outside for some shots. I just love him to pieces!

Making Some Progress...

I am starting to make some progress on proofing all these sessions! I'm only 3 sessions out now, so that's a little better than 6!

For the "K" family and the "L" family :)

This first session was for a very special woman & her family. "C" was one of Henry's PICU nurses, as well as one of his pallbearers. She is sweet, selfless, and always made us laugh :) She was his primary nurse after his first surgery, and we don't know how we could have done it without her. She took so much time explaining things to us when Henry was first diagnosed, and has become and stayed a dear friend, even after 2 1/2 years!

"A" and I go back a long ways...she went to high school with my sister. We've lost touch over the many years that have passed since then, so I was excited to hear from her a few months back. She & her family were in town visiting family, and I had the chance to photograph them and meet her beautiful children. Here you go, "A"!

Clips and headbands and pony holders, oh my!

You may remember a post a few weeks back about a company called Oopsie Dazie. The owner, Cindy, commissioned me to do some commercial work for her, and here are some of the results! Shooting still objects is definitely NOT something I am used to :) and I have to say, while it wasn't as tiring as a child session (oh, and I got to stay in the air conditioning!), it still came with it's own challenges. I really had to get the creative juices going on this one, and I think for my first time, it turned out pretty well! Here's just a taste for Cindy, as I know I've kept her waiting for awhile for these. I should have the rest done by this weekend...and I'll add on the model shots then (Charlotte and her daughter were both models for me) :)

Back to real life

This post is more personal than usual...those of you who are friends will understand it better...

It seems like just a few days ago we were leaving on vacation, and here we are, back already! Vacations always go by so fast. We had a great time, and made lots of memories with the kiddos.

This was our first vacation for my whole family to take since Heidi has died, so it was bittersweet at times. I missed her so much this week, and really felt just how incomplete our family really is still. Drew asked several times (out of the blue) where his mommy was. I guess he has been asking that for awhile now, but I had never heard him ask before. He was so persistent in wanting to know. It was such a painful experience for all of us....not really knowing what to say. I think we all knew this day would come, but yet were unprepared for it. I want to protect him from the pain of not having his mommy here, but I know I can't do that. All we can do is pray for God to give us the strength to say the right thing.

All in all, we had a relaxing week, filled with beautiful weather (mid 70's.....ahhhh, such a relief from the 95 degree temps we'd been having here), sand, waves, and late night UNO games. I feel like another page has turned in this book of My Life, and a new chapter is beginning....filled with new traditions, as well as some old ones.

There are lots of pictures ahead....I have to warn you, I am without Photshop for the week, so no creative touches/editing!

We found these enormous sand dunes! That's Drew at the bottom of the hill (Matt & Andy had climbed to the top- crazy men!)

This is without a doubt my favorite photograph from our trip. I remember watching this and thinking, I wish Heidi could be here to see this...what an amazing moment between Andy & Drew. My mom was sitting next to me and said at that exact moment "I like to think Heidi can see those two right now, and how much pleasure it must bring her." Words just can't describe how I felt watching this scene.

Sneak Peek Palooza

I've been busy lately, therefore, the blog's been busy! I've got two sneak peeks in one today, so scroll down to see both. This first is from a 1st birthday party. The birthday boy was feeling a little under the weather that day, but he perked up when he got his first taste of birthday cake! J & J- thanks for inviting me to T's special day :)

Ok folks, I'm officially on vacation starting tomorrow! For those of you with sessions scheduled this month, I may be running a little behind on proofing. I will do my best to get them to you early or on time (as I usually do), but if it goes closer to 2 or 2 1/2 weeks without hearing from me, don't worry- I am just up to my eyeballs in images right now, and am doing my best to climb out of the heap! :) Between babies being born early, some "fit ins" and a community outreach, I am a bit overscheduled this month. It's a great thing though - this new bad boy of a computer is still waiting to be paid for! :)

So much to say

I haven't posted snapshots in such a long time. Tonight we had a dinner party with some friends, and it was so nice getting some pictures of our kids all together. It was such a fun night (even though Charlotte was injured several times - ahh the life of a walker!)

Just a reminder: next week I am on vacation, and may or may not have access to email. I will have access to voicemail, so feel free to try me that way if you don't get a response via email. We are renting a house on Lake Michigan with my family and I'm pretty sure wireless is not accessible where we're staying (considering there's no tv! Yes, I said no tv. Whatever will we do?) I will probably be a little lost without my email but it will be a nice break to not be able to do anything work related for 4 whole days! (although I am planning on editing all the way up there & back) :)

This next month is CRAZY busy....lots of overbookings and "squeeze ins", so all you may be seeing/hearing from me for awhile is sneak peeks...so I apologize in advance! Hopefully by the this fall things will be more normal!

There seems to be a lot of newborns lately! I have a few more in the next month, so my blog will be filled with lots of sweet little ones! This little girl, at 5 weeks, was a little older than the typical newborn shoot, but she was still just as tiny! The hour and a half drive was worth it- to get my hands on a tiny little baby girl again :) Baby "A" decided she didn't want to sleep much for me, but it didn't keep me from getting some precious shots. Here are just a few to tide mom over until I finish proofing. "A" is just too cute!

I just finished a much-needed reprieve from sessions. I think we all need to take a break every now and then from our everyday routines. I had an opportunity to help out a fellow photographer at her first newborn shoot last week. She and I went to high school together several years ago (let's not say how many!), and she and her husband now reside in Texas. Her husband is into studio photography, while she would like to try on-location, natural light photography. She has been in town visiting, so we got a chance to catch up, meet each other's daughters (only 2 months apart!), and I helped her out with this wee one.
Just wanted to share a few of my favorites. Tomorrow I'm traveling out of town for another newborn shoot, so I'll soon have another baby to share!

Just a few side notes before I begin the "real" post for today....I am officially booked for the rest of 2007. ..wow! If you would like to be added to a cancellation list, please contact me. Also, happy belated birthday to my AWESOME hubby! Matt has been my biggest supporter and constant encourager in life. He truly is a gift from God!

Now, onto the real reason I am posting today. I want to share with you about a great little company called Oopsie Dazie. Cindy, the owner, creates custom, one-of-a-kind hair clips/pony holders that are truly drool-worthy. I originally went to see Cindy to purchase a hair clip to match Charlotte's birthday dress. A few minutes later, I walked out with 4 clips, and 1 more ordered! I couldn't believe the variety of clips she carried. How would I describe the clips....? Trendy, girly, fun, unique. Every clip is handmade by Cindy, who has a great eye for design. Not only does she have gobs of clips already made up for you to choose from, but she also has spools of ribbon and attachments so you can have her create one exactly to your liking! The great thing about these adorable clips is the tiny strip of velcro on the inside...no slipping out here! Best of all though, they are the perfect accessory, and they certainly get noticed! Charlotte's only had hers for a week now, and she's already gotten several compliments.
Also, Cindy is super nice to boot! I went to pick up a clip that I had ordered, and she gave me a free clip as a birthday present for Charlotte. It was one I had been admiring the last time I had been in, and Cindy had remembered. You don't see that kind of customer service everday!

Charlotte is ONE!

Well, my baby girl is offically ONE! I still can't believe it. Everyone tells you how fast the first year goes by, and wow, it really does! This is a day that I always sort of feared would never come. After losing Henry, I've always wondered if I would have the chance to sing "Happy Birthday", watch my child open presents, and hear my child say "mama" as they stretch our their arms for me. I've gotten this, and so much more. While I lost that chance with Henry, I am all the more thankful for this last year with Charlotte. I am so glad that I have learned to never take one moment for granted, and to be thankful for everything - even the difficult moments. I'm warning you, there's quite a few pictures ahead! A few of them are just snapshots from her birthday...the lighting was terrible and I stubbornly refused to use my in camera flash (shudder) and was too lazy to get out the bounce flash :) They were too fun not to share, though. Charlotte LOVED her cake, as you can see! Thanks to all my faithful blog-readers...friends and clients...for keeping up with me and letting me chatter on and on about my special little girl :)

Sunday night I had the privilege to photograph this adorable little girl. I still can't believe she's only 4 1/2! She was posing like a model for a fashion mag! She was so easy to photograph, I went through two memory cards (which I never do) just from constantly snapping away. She had myself and her parents cracking up the entire night :)

Up a creek

...or a lake. Long story, but let's just say that Saturday night's session had a little "adventure" that we could have done without! Thank goodness for easy going clients like Trish. She laughed it off better than I'm sure I would of! It was a little hot, but really turned out to be a pretty nice night. Trish's 3 little ones amazed me with how great they got along...I don't think I heard one "Stop it!" or "Leave me alone!" that's typical of siblings. So awesome to see such a tight-knit family.

I had the most laid back session a few nights back. This family was so easy to capture...the kids were the most behaved I've met yet, and the parents just went with the flow. Couldn't have been easier! I feel like I really was able to capture this family as they truly are, and got some great candids, which I love! Not to mention that Linda and I share the common bond of both being "heart mommas" and both have experienced the loss of a son.
Linda, it was so nice to finally meet you in person and hear a little of Scottie's story. I like to think that Henry and Scottie were watching us play in the park on Sunday and smiling as their moms talked about them. Here's a sneak peek from your session - I should have the rest done next week!

A day at the beach...

I promised I would post some pictures from our trip last week, so here they are! These are from our last night in Orlando. We went resort hopping at Disney, and these were taken at one of my favorite resorts - The Polynesian. You felt like you were in Hawaii when you walked into this resort. The white sand beach was huge and the sunset that night was just beautiful. It was Charlotte's first time in the sand, and she loved it! (click on each image to see in full res.)

Well, we just got back from sunny (and hot!) Orlando. It was our first vacation for just the 3 of us, and it was SO nice! I can't even begin to write everything we did (although I did keep a vacation journal so Charlotte can read it someday). We had an absolute blast! We stayed at Disney for a few days, then bopped around Orlando for the rest of the week. This week also marked my 26th birthday! Matt - the loving, sensitive husband that he is - kindly informed me that I am now in my "late twenties". I have to say that I disagree...I think late twenties should be closer to 28, or at the very earliest 27 :) I can't blame the guy...he's going to be 32 this month so I'm sure being the old man that he is, he has to give me a hard time. Must be tough being the oldest one in the house!
Anyway, we had a great time, and yes, it was very magical, as Disney always is! I can't wait to go back in the spring. It is our favorite place to visit and I'm always a little sad to leave. I of course took a ridiculous amount of pictures, so I'll try to get some on in the next few days.
The next few weeks is uber busy with sessions, so you'll be seeing lots of sneak peeks...but first I'll get some of Charlotte on here from our week in Mickey-ville!

Another birthday!

Today was the 1st birthday party for Jack! (you'll remember him from a post a few weeks ago). His mommy & daddy asked me to take pictures of the event so they could relax and just enjoy...what a great idea! Since we are leaving tomorrow for a week (vacation-whee!!), I thought I would do a little sneak peek to hopefully satisy his parents for awhile until I get done proofing. So here you go guys! (and there's LOTS more to come!)

This little girly girl is Chloe, the daughter of some dear friends of ours. I did their family session early today, hoping to avoid the rainy forecast. Of course, it never did rain, but better be safe than sorry! This family was my first session ever, back in January, when all I had was a point and shoot and a head full of ideas. I'm so thankful that their mom let me "practice" on them for 3 hours that day...I got bit by the photog bug that same day and haven't looked back since! Thanks Katie ~ and here's your sneak peek!

Here's a few from my latest session...this momma drove an hour just to let me play with her kiddos and snap some pictures! These 3 little ones were full of energy and gave both of us our dose of daily exercise! :) The middle child is a "heart kid", so this session had extra special meaning for me.

I just finished designing Charlotte's 1st birthday invites and I am so happy with them! It only took me about 8 hours...hah...I am such a perfectionist! The folks at my online lab did a fab job with the printing, and papersource.com got me adorable matching envelopes and seals. I just love these 2 companies! (nothing like a little plug, right?) :)

They're going in the mail tomorrow, so keep an eye on your mailbox, friends!

The Jackster

Ok, this little guy is pretty special...not only are his parents dear friends of ours, but he is Charlotte's future husband! Ok, I may be elaborating a little on that last part...but they are just 3 weeks apart, and I can't but wonder if they'll someday be buddies or even something more :)

What a fun, relaxing session! It was fun wandering around the golf course snapping pictures of this family. Tina, here's your sneak peek...it was so hard to only pick a few, but I had to save some of my favorites for later :) I can't wait to show you the rest!

Stick collector

My most recent session was with two little blondies...a 3 year old boy and his 9 month old sister. The boy was intent on collecting sticks the entire session, so by the time we finished up, he had two big armfulls! His daddy helped him find a "special place" to leave them in the park; otherwise, they would of for sure gone home with them! Ya gotta love 3 year olds!

Earlier this week, I took pictures for my dear friend, Callie and her husband David. They have 2 adorable little boys...you may remember them from a post way back in March. I think the best part of this job is the repeat clients. I get to see firsthand how much the children have changed over the months. As I started proofing this latest shoot, I was amazed at how different both of these boys look, just after a few months. It's such a bittersweet feeling. You want them to grow up, but yet you don't. Before we know it, I'll be taking their senior pictures!

Father's Day Special!

Only 24 days until Father's Day! I realized this today while talking to a friend. I had taken pictures of her boys the night before and she mentioned wanting to order some of them for her husband for Father's Day. That's when I realized that I had better get on the ball! So now I am scrambling to make up a storyboard for Matt for his "office" (aka cubical) and get it ordered in time.

Goin' to the chapel...

Well, I had my first wedding last weekend! I was a second shooter for a wedding photographer (& friend) of mine. She was nice enough to take me under her wing and let me click away that day. I finally got around to editing some tonight, so I thought I'd post a few on here.

I must say that while it was a fun day, it showed me that weddings are definitely not my forte! I'm not used to having to ask people to pose, etc. Children are so great in that everything they do is cute, and having fun just comes naturally! While I think I'll leave the wedding side of the business to Whitney, I will continue to second shoot with her this summer. So you may see some wedding images on my blog from time to time over the course of the summer - but let me assure you that photographing children is still my absolute fave and focus!

If you've been wanting to book an outdoor session but haven't done so yet, I strongly encourage you to look at my calendar and pick a date. The summer is filling up fast (I only take 4 sessions per month). Also, I have business cards around town, so if you find one, bring it in for $15 off your print order!

Well, I recovered from my insanely busy weekend! The wedding on Saturday was an absolute blast...although I still have so much to learn. Wedding photography is so completely different from what I am used to. I haven't even scratched the surface of the hundreds of photos I took, but hopefully I'll get a few to post on here over the weekend. Thank you Whitney for taking me under your wing and letting me click away like crazy :) Your creativity amazes me!

Saturday evening I had a great session with this cute lil redhead. She is such a doll! Her parents were so great...letting me put a tutu on their daughter even though it made her cry :)

I haven't been very good at keeping up with the blog lately, but it's all for a very good reason...I have a new website! www.summerknoblochphotography.com After a week of work (and pulling my hair out), I finally finished my website. I can already tell it is going to be lifesaver for me. Clients can view proofs, place an order (and even pay!), check my calendar for openings, and shoot me an email. All without leaving my site. Ahhh, simplicity. Things are finally calming down here now that I'm done working on the site, but after this weekend, it's back to crazyland for me! I have an event I'm shooting in the morning, a wedding that I'm a 2nd shooter for all day, then that evening I'm off to an outdoor shoot. I get tired just thinking about it! It should be a fun day, though. It will be my first wedding experience, so I am quite excited about it. Yesterday Matt "kidnapped" Charlotte and I for the day and took us to Wildlife Prairie Park! It was such a fun day. It was just what we needed...a little vaca from life. Time to just be a family and enjoy being outside. We both felt so refreshed when we got home (even after walking all over the hiking trails pushing a jogging stroller....oh, and uphill both ways of course!) I loved seeing the wonder on Charlotte's face as she enjoyed her first train ride and saw bison for the first time. If only they could stay this little longer!

So fun to be 2!

I had a shoot last night with the perfect model! Gorgeous brown hair that flips and curls in all the right places...sparkling green eyes...pink pouty lips....man, this girl has got it so good! Oh, did I mention she's only two? This little tot kept me busy as we ran all over the park. I think she was a little afraid of the camera...but even with tears and lots of running, I still managed to capture some sweet moments that only a 2 year old could impart!

Elisa, here's a sneak peek at your proofs...I told you we'd get some good ones! - even with the crying spells :) Hope this tides you over until they're done!

For Dad

My dad was working on screening in my parents' front porch last week, and Drew, being the boy that he is, really wanted to help. He calls it "workin". He was busy "hammering" in the screws and "drilling". Thankfully I had my camera. I've learned not to leave the house without it :) I snapped a few pictures, trying to capture those fleeting, precious moments before they slipped away forever. I love watching my Dad interact with his grandchildren. I have grown to love him even more as I watch him play with them and love on them. I think it's because I get a glimpse of how he must have cared for us when we were little. There's nothing quite as wonderful as watching your parents cherish your own children.
This is for you, Dad, to bring a smile to your day! I love you.

Ok, change of plans

I orginally was going to revamp this blog into a website for my clients, but instead I am going to make a blog in addition to this one that will be business-only. I am in the process of creating it, so bare with me...I'll post a link to it as soon as it's up and running!
Someday, I hope to have an amazing, professional website designed just for me. But considering those start at $600, I'm going to have to wait quite awhile for that :)
So this blog will still be here, as a place for my thoughts and latest adventures :)

Facelift

No, I'm not getting one...but my blog is! You may notice over the next few weeks some subtle changes. I'm going to transition my blog into a place where clients can go to get more info....prices, specials, sneak peaks, etc. So (for the 2 of you who actually check my blog), don't be confused if things start to look a little different.

Now, onto some fun stuff! This is a kiddo from a shoot on Monday. Joy-I'm still editing, but here's a sneak peak at your proofs! Gorgeous, happy kid= the perfect shoot! Thanks for letting me come over and play with Tyler :)

I haven't been too good at blogging, but I think it's because I keep catching myself coming and going! I'm keeping busy with photo shoots....when I'm not taking pictures, I'm editing. So I'm a little burry-eyed at the moment! I can't complain though...I get to do something that I love and it is a way for me to stay home with Charlotte (which I love even more!) :)

I'm waiting for a load of diapers to finish washing so I can throw them in the dryer and then head to bed. I did 348 loads of laundry today. (well, it felt like it anyway!) It seems like the housework is never caught up. I appreciated my friend Callie's comment today that a sign of a good mom is a house that isn't spotless! It means she's spending more time with her child than she is cleaning :) That definitely fits me to a "t"! At least I finally have a good excuse!

While I'm waiting for my 349th load of laundry to finish, here's a few shots from my shoot last week...these are Shelly's adorable little girls (you can check out her blog under "blogs i visit") This was by far my most fun shoot yet! (the first picture speaks for itself!)

It's almost Easter!

I haven't been able to blog much lately. Charlotte's keeping us up at night, and tomorrow begins 2 months of back to back photo shoots. So my blogs will probably be limited to a few words here and there, and mostly pictures :)
Speaking of which, I finally took some Easter pics of Charlotte yesterday in my parents' yard. She'll be 9 months by Easter...she is the sunshine in my every day :)
